Communicating COVID-19 Safety in Guinea-Bissau

In Guinea-Bissau, the country’s UNICEF (United Nations Childrens Fund) taskforce hosted an intervention called Children’s Rights and Basic Journalism Techniques training. Aissato Baldé, a resident of rural Tassilima and a member of UNICEF activities in the area since she was 15, participated in this event and learned critical communication skills and information about human rights in her country. As the COVID-19 pandemic hit Guinea-Bissau, Aissato gathered a team of girls to help aid the efforts. She used those communication skills learned in the event and spread information on COVID-19 to her community through daily visits and conversations about the pandemic. Through her efforts, she is both advocating for safe practices during the pandemic and strengthening leadership among youth in her community.
