Educating about COVID-19

In the Mtsiriza township of Lilongwe, Malawi, Brian Khembo founded the organization My Community My Responsibility, which was started to help educate locals about COVID-19. As part of this effort, he leads weekly meetings with 300 elders in local towns, where he discusses social distancing and regular hand washing, and distributes food, masks and soap to both older adults and vulnerable street children. The older adults and street kids are noted to be especially vulnerable and forgotten during the pandemic. In July 2020, he was awarded by the Queen of England the Commonwealth Points of Light award, which celebrates inspirational volunteering.
