Informing Youth about COVID-19 in Eritrea

In Eritrea, NUEYS (National Union of Eritrean Youth and Students) has taken the task of monitoring the movement of the population and informing the youth with vital information regarding the current COVID-19 situation. NUEYS has helped distribute information in both conventional and non-conventional ways: brochures, posters, flyers, and even musical plays and video productions. Medhanie, a volunteer with the group, has been working with NUEYS since the lockdown started in April of 2020. He believes it brings a sense of moral satisfaction for him, protecting his people from an “invisible enemy.” Medhanie, along with NUEYS’s work, has helped the local youth population stay informed and make conscious decisions about limiting the spread of COVID-19, contributing to the relatively low infection rate.
